Geo-Science
Geo-science forms an essential component in the decision making process in many key areas, such as inward investment; resource development; environmental protection; urban planning; and the development of water, mineral and hydrocarbon resources.
The environment as a whole is a key issue that involves many aspects of geo-science. Natural resources, such as minerals or oil, and their sustainability can have a huge impact on the livelihoods of poor people in the area.
Developing countries are also more vulnerable to natural hazards, such as land-slides and seismic events, as they lack to capacity to cope with the scale of the disaster. Geo-science also covers areas such as soil or water contamination, which also greatly influence living standards.
